In the heart of Marin County, just a stone's throw away from the bustling city of San Francisco, Larkspur offers a charming blend of natural beauty and vibrant culture. Located just 3 miles south of San Rafael, the city serves as a hub for transportation, offering convenient access to both urban centers and natural wonders.
Lace up your hiking boots and venture into the lush landscapes of the nearby Baltimore Canyon Open Space Preserve, where towering redwoods and babbling brooks await. For a more leisurely experience, stroll along the serene pathways of King Mountain Loop Trail and soak in panoramic vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys.
While here, take a leisurely stroll through downtown Larkspur and admire the charming Victorian architecture, browse boutique shops for unique souvenirs, and sample delicious cuisine at local eateries. If time allows, catch a performance at the historic Lark Theater, where films entertain audiences of all ages. Explore the eclectic galleries of downtown, where local artists showcase their talent through a variety of mediums. And be sure to mark your calendar for the annual Larkspur Flower & Music Festival, a celebration of community spirit featuring live music, artisan vendors, and, of course, stunning displays of blooming larkspur flowers.
Larkspur is home to one of Golden Gate Transit's primary ferry terminals, Larkspur Landing. This terminal serves as a crucial link for commuters traveling between Marin County and the bustling San Francisco Ferry Building, as well as the Financial District. Additionally, special direct ferry services from the Larkspur Ferry Terminal to Oracle Park make catching San Francisco Giants games a breeze.
In 2019, Larkspur welcomed the extension of the Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) commuter rail service to Larkspur station. This expansion provides daily trips, offering commuters easy access to destinations as far north as Charles M. Schulz–Sonoma County Airport, with future plans to extend the line to Cloverdale station.
